DESCRIPTION & INSPIRATION
The overall concept of our game is to combine dice, a checkerboard and cards together in a tactical board game. The theme of the game is magic, so we came up with the idea of having three elements counter each other, and letting players battle with others on the checkerboard. Many games have this three-element design, like Pokemon, and it’s straightforward to understand how each element can be countered or counter the other. We want to make the basic mechanism easy to understand while keeping the thrill of having unpredictable outcomes. We integrate luck and wit into our game: the player needs to plan out their next step and balance the risk and gain. This combination of battling and resource managing conveys the idea that simply having strong cards in hand isn’t sufficient to win this game, and we think this suits our overall theme of becoming a powerful mage who has both the wit and strength to beat other mages.
